Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the progressive retirement age adjustment policy starting in 2025?
Starting January 1, 2025, China is progressively delaying the statutory retirement age over 15 years. Male employees delay from 60 to 63 years, female workers (blue-collar) from 50 to 55 years, and female cadres (white-collar) from 55 to 58 years.
What is the elastic retirement rule under the new policy?
If you have met the minimum social security contribution years, you can voluntarily choose to retire early (up to 3 years earlier than statutory, but not lower than the original statutory ages: 60/50/55). Alternatively, you can negotiate with your employer to delay retirement (up to 3 years later).
How are the minimum pension contribution years changing?
From 2030, the minimum social security payment period will rise from 15 to 20 years. It will increase by 6 months every calendar year, reaching the full 20-year requirement by 2039.
