Why Choose Compound Interest Calculator
Calculate future value, total contributions, and interest from an initial principal, monthly contribution, nominal annual rate, and whole number of years. The engine compounds monthly and adds each contribution after that month’s interest. Results exclude taxes, fees, and inflation.
- ✓Monthly compounding with month-end contributions.
- ✓Separate totals for contributions and earned interest.
- ✓Year-by-year values based on a constant annual rate.
How to Calculate
- 1Enter the initial principal and monthly contribution in the same currency.
- 2Enter the nominal annual interest rate as a percentage and a whole number of years.
- 3Compare future value, total contributions, interest, and the yearly breakdown.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
When are monthly contributions added?
Contributions are added at the end of each month, after interest is applied to the existing balance. A contribution at the beginning of the month would earn an additional month of interest and produce a different result.
How can I verify the calculation?
With principal 10,000, no monthly contribution, a nominal annual rate of 5%, and one year: 10,000 × (1 + 0.05/12)^12 = 10,511.62 after rounding. The monthly rate is the annual rate divided by 12.
Can I choose daily compounding or adjust for inflation?
This tool currently uses monthly compounding at a constant rate. It does not offer daily or annual compounding modes, nor deduct fees, taxes, or inflation. A projected rate is an assumption, not a guaranteed investment return.
