Why Choose Base64 Encoder / Decoder
Encode UTF-8 text or a file as standard Base64, or decode a Base64 value and inspect a supported image preview.
How to Calculate
- 1Choose text or file input; for text, enter the characters to encode.
- 2Choose Encode or Decode. For example, encode Hello to obtain SGVsbG8=.
- 3Copy the result and keep the original character encoding in mind when using it elsewhere.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Hello encodes as SGVsbG8= and can be decoded without a key. Base64 is a representation of bytes and does not protect confidential data.
Is this Base64url?
This tool uses standard Base64. Base64url changes + and / to - and _ and often omits padding. Do not assume that a value accepted by one format is valid in the other.
Why can decoded text look wrong?
Base64 stores bytes, not a character set. This tool handles UTF-8 text; arbitrary binary data is not necessarily readable text. An image preview is provided only when a supported signature is recognized.
