Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How does tiered electricity pricing work?
Tiered pricing charges different rates for different levels of consumption. In progressive/marginal pricing, each tier's rate applies only to usage within that range. For example, if Tier 1 covers 0-2000 kWh at $0.12 and Tier 2 covers 2000-4000 kWh at $0.18, using 3000 kWh costs 2000×$0.12 + 1000×$0.18 = $420.
What uses the most electricity at home?
Air conditioning typically accounts for 40-50% of summer electricity. Electric water heaters, refrigerators, and washing machines are also major consumers. LED lighting uses 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs.
